Christmas in July: The Night Before Christmas (Roger Duvoisin)

The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore,
illustrated by Roger Duvoisin.
Originally published by Doubleday, 1954.
Reprint edition by Knopf Books for Young Readers, 2014.

Kansas is still hot and stormy, and the world is still scary. Let's pretend it's Christmas! A cheerful, retro Christmas, as imagined by Roger Duvoisin (again).

Oh, man, those endpapers. I just love Roger Duvoisin.

And on a serious note, I wish everyone out there peace and love. The world is scary, and at times, it feels too small.

Christmas in July: The Christmas Whale

The Christmas Whale by Roger Duvoisin. Alfred A. Knopf, 1945.

Yes, it's about a whale. At Christmas. For real.

And it's written and illustrated by Roger Duvoisin, who is one of my favourites and my bests.

Look at all that snow. So, what happens if all of the reindeer get sick on Christmas Eve?

Poor reindeer.

Santa asks other animals to help, but in the end, it's the Whale who comes to his rescue.

Poor Whale!

This book is the best. It's so perfectly weird. I am on the lookout for a lovely (but affordable) copy of my very own. Thank you, interlibrary loan, for finally putting the book in my hands!

Little Sis Tuesday: My Friend Dolls Go Camping

It's time for Little Sis Tuesday, when I turn the blog over to my 8 1/2-year-old. This week, Little Sis borrowed my Samsung Galaxy to photograph three of our Fisher Price "My Friend" dolls: Mandy, Jenny, and Becky. I guess they rented a cabin at a campground. Lucky them! I helped her edit the photos using the PicsArt app. All words and photos are by Little Sis. - Danzel
