Russian Fairy Tales (A Giant Golden Book)

Russian Fairy Tales (A Giant Golden Book), translated by Marie Ponsot,
illustrated by Benvenuti. Golden Press, 1960.

Two years ago, I blogged about another Giant Golden Book, Japanese Fairy Tales, also illustrated by Benvenuti. The whole post is pretty embarrassing now.Perhaps one day, I will recheck the book and blog it again. But today, I am thrilled to share another Giant Golden Book from 1960, Russian Fairy Tales.

*If you cannot tell, I fare much better with a decent smart phone than I do with my D-SLR. A photographer I am not, at least not until I can properly learn the ins and out of photography.

There are five stories total: "Prince Ivan and the Firebird," "Vassilissa the Beautiful," "Stupid Emilien" [which I can't find a summary for, aside for another picture book version], "The Frog Princess," and "Maria Marina." They're highly readable, but of course, the illustrations steal the show!

We're gearing up for our summer week of fairies and fantasy. Tomorrow, the girls and I head to Lindsborg for the Midsummer's Festival, and actual Midsummer and International Fairy Day are just around the corner! Meanwhile, we're trying not to melt in the Kansas heat...

Merry Weekend! Happy Reading!
