Christmas in July: The Christmas Whale

The Christmas Whale by Roger Duvoisin. Alfred A. Knopf, 1945.

Yes, it's about a whale. At Christmas. For real.

And it's written and illustrated by Roger Duvoisin, who is one of my favourites and my bests.

Look at all that snow. So, what happens if all of the reindeer get sick on Christmas Eve?

Poor reindeer.

Santa asks other animals to help, but in the end, it's the Whale who comes to his rescue.

Poor Whale!

This book is the best. It's so perfectly weird. I am on the lookout for a lovely (but affordable) copy of my very own. Thank you, interlibrary loan, for finally putting the book in my hands!

  1. Ha! I learned more about his books a lot sooner than I envisioned! This looks like a fun twist on Christmas! I love the custom inspectors never opening a package. And the poor, weighted down whale. :-) Fun!

    1. It's such a hoot! It was difficult to photograph, because of its width. Plus it was an old library copy, and a bit fragile. I'd seen it on the interwebs before, but it tends to be expensive.

Comments are welcome! I'm a shy blog commenter, too, but I do love to read what people have to say. All I ask is, please be kind, to me and to each other.
