Snow Day

Late last February, our state saw a record-breaking amount of snowfall, in a very short amount of time. Everything came to standstill. It was crazy.

We called it The Blizzard of Oz.

Maybe this is our new February... thing.

Our school system announced at 6:00 last night that school would be canceled today.

That never happens.

The snow hadn't even started. It wasn't supposed to start until the overnight hours, piling up throughout today.

Turns out, they made the right call.

Everything is closing.  On Facebook, I'm watching as local businesses I follow are closing due to weather.

It's a marshmallow world...

While I wish my play rehearsal would go on as planned tonight - we open a week from tomorrow! - it will probably be canceled. That's my only complaint. Mr. B had already planned a vacation day for today, for reasons completely unrelated to weather, so my little family is all safe and accounted for at home.

And the truth? I love snow days.

(I also love reading Charlie and Lola books aloud, because my Lola impression is my favourite and my best, if I do say so myself.)

    1. I know. I miss the show, too. There are a bunch of episodes on YouTube, so I'll probably make myself a playlist. I like it more than the girls! Although Little Sis got a Charlie & Lola drawing book for Christmas. That's pretty sweet!

It stopped for a while, then started again. Broke the record for the most snowfall in one day, although it still isn't the 16 inches we wound up with last February. That was over the course of several days...

    1. Confession time: I never even got dressed today! I spent the day in my pajamas because I could. I took all my pictures from the back door. Ha!

To be fair, someone else coined the name last year, when we had a record-breaking blizzard. 16 inches of snow over the course of a couple days! Everyone loved the name, so this one is known as The Blizzard of Oz Part 2. The news keeps calling it the "Wichita Whiteout," but to be fair, the entire state is shut down. ;)

  3. Yay for the beautiful snow and even more yay for your family being safe at home. I think it's better to be safe than sorry anyway (remember those poor students stuck at school or on the freeway D:)! Oh Charlie and Lola!!! I ADORE them! My boy has been an addict of their books and cartoons and now my baby girl is starting too! I was just about to post something about them because baby is watching them every morning on TV (although I have almost all the DVDs). And I agree, Lola is just awesome to read out loud :) It makes the kids laugh when I do the British accent.

    1. School is canceled again today, but I think Mr. B is going to work. I have rehearsal tonight, but we have to hold it elsewhere. The facility where our theatre is was closed today, which means we won't be able to park - no one will have cleared the lot! I think we got 7 to 8 inches.

I would love a big Charlie and Lola boxed set. For me, more than the girls! :) I will make a YouTube playlist soon. We no longer have cable, so we can't watch on Disney anymore.

  4. I swear everyone in the USA is having snow days EXCEPT for us. We haven't even had that much snow. sure, we have snow... but theres talk of how low our levels are and how if we don't start getting snowpack in the mountains we're going to have a very bad drought year. And then theres me, pining away for summer...

    1. I'm so happy to have an actual winter. I hate warm winters, like the winter 2 years ago. It always seems to herald an atrocious summer. I'll gladly take a lot of snow over 110 degree averages over the summer. Kansas is full of extremes! :)
