Halloween Morning

It is here!  It's Halloween!
And as of this morning, it's raining cats and dogs.  Eek!

To set the mood, here are some recent pictures of our town's two oldest cemeteries in October.  I didn't have time to take as many as I wanted, and we've had some stormy weather the last two days.  Maybe I'll make it there again next week.

Highland Cemetery is the oldest.  The first burial was in 1870, the year the city was incorporated.  It was taken over by the city 30 years ago.  It is sad to see decorative urns demolished, the occasional angel beheaded.  It is a sprawling cemetery.  Sidney Toler, the third actor to play Charlie Chan (and the actor to play him the longest), is buried here, but I haven't found his grave yet.

Grave of "Buffalo Bill" Mathewson and family.

I've posted pictures from Maple Grove Cemetery before.  It lies across the street from Highland, and was founded by A.A. Hyde, inventor of Mentholatum.  (He is buried here, too, but his grave is very unassuming and hard for me to find.)

This is the photogenic group known as the grotto mausoleums.

James R. Mead was another city founder.

We have fall parties and a costume parade at the school today.  Don't worry - I'm toning my little zombies down for school!  Let's cross our fingers that the parade can be outdoors on the track.  I have my doubts, though.  It is so wet right now!  Then tonight, we'll head to our favorite trick-or-treating destinations.  Oh please let us have nice weather by then!

And our porch?  Here is a peak at our jack o' lanterns.

And finally, I'll leave you with something Mr. B and I insist on watching every year, to the point where we actually bought it.  From many years ago, when The History Channel actually showed history stuff, I give you "The Haunted History of Halloween."

    1. Oh, we're flyover country, you know. Flat and boring, ugliest scenery in the country according to magazine polls. It's all about looking for the good stuff!

I can't wait to hear about your Halloween. Someday, we will have to get our monsters together. We will have such a great time. xoxo
