October Preview

Thirty days hath September...  and they are almost over!  Tuesday is October 1, and I can't wait for October.  I will be deep into fall fun, and I plan on dragging this blog and whoever wants to come along with me!  As you can see, we've started preparing the porch...

And the mums were an anniversary present from my wonderful husband last weekend.  He knows what I like.

And I've even started a bit on the dining area...

So what do I have planned for Silver Shoes & Rabbit Holes?

  • Reviews of a few books, either new ones or ones we haven't read yet.  Some are Halloween-themed, some with a ghostly edge.
  • A look back at a few books or entertainments from my own childhood past.
  • A look at some of the most frightening childhood tales of all:  Fairy tales!  Grimm's Grimmest, or Scary Tales.  (Still working on a good title for that feature.)
  • Weird phobias!  Posts about pediophobia (the fear of dolls) or coulrophobia (the fear of clowns).  I'm not afraid of this stuff, but I know so many who are!
  • Sharing some special fall or Halloween activities our own family will be enjoying:  Trips to the Kansas City Renaissance Festival, a historic home tour, a planned venture to the Oklahoma City Zoo, leaf gathering at my favorite local cemetery, pumpkin soup making, crafting...

And so, my dear readers, until then, Merry Weekend!  Happy Reading!

  1. What wonderful decorations you have there! Everything looks amazing -I just love owls- and what you have planned for the blog sounds such a lot of fun. Count me in for everything! :O)
Oh wow, I didn't even know there was a word for these strange phobias. I have a bit of that coulro-thing- well not exactly a phobia, but I don't like clowns and I don't like masks. Something about hiding one's face I suppose. I remember being little and scared of my own eyes in the mirror as I looked at myself wearing a mask!
You're right, this time of the year is wonderful.
    Merry weekend! :O)

    1. I think old Halloween masks are creepy, but I like creepy. Maybe that's why I still like clowns and antique dolls. I have been planning these posts in my head for a while, so I know what direction I want to go.

We love owls! The girls have a very owly bedroom, and I gather a few new owl things for myself each year. I still haven't figured out where my old fall directions were moved to... They were not in their usual place this year...

    1. Well, we do it in little spurts. My husband did the cleaning of the porch. See, I suck at all things housework-related. :o) I have yet to bring much of the glee indoors, though... Happy Weekend!

  8. The felt owl is really adorable. I haven't done any decorations yet and we don't have any plans for this month! I think we're still just trying to settle in to the new house. Sounds like you'll be having so much fun. We went to the KC Ren Fest last year and it was definitely entertaining. Wish they had nicer bathrooms, though.

    1. So I can't find my usual stash of decorations, so the leaf lights and owls came from DILLON'S. Seriously. I need to find my decorations, though. I want my Halloween things!

RenFest was a lot of fun! My oldest was the only one who used the restroom there, though. The youngest and I waited to hit the Casey's General Store after we left. Probably a safer bet.
