Dandelion Adventures

It's dandelion season.  We know we need to mow, but there's something so colorful and warm about all the yellow and whispy white flowers in the yard right now.  Little Sis had a whole dandelion "dinner" in the backyard last year, complete with dandelion bouquet, dandelion soup, and a yellow bowlful of cereal.  Oh, and rabbit ears.

We're currently enjoying the dandelions before the mower mows them down again.  Lots of wishes to make!

And of course, we feel it's important to get to know our favorite little weed  wildflower better via a book or two.

Dandelion Adventures by L. Patricia Kite, illustrated by Anca Hariton.
The Millbrook Press, Inc., 1998.

I wish this lovely book was still in print, but apparently, it is not.  It's beautifully illustrated and quite informative.  Thank goodness for the library!

  1. Indeed thank goodness for the library! We don't have a lot of dandelions, but the buttercups are another story. That stuff will infiltrate like you can't believe! I'm always on the hunt for a new buttercup sprout, so I can YANK it OUT. Which is too bad in a way, because they are so cheery looking. But they invade like nobody's biz :)

    1. Aww, buttercups are so pretty! They remind me of the empty field at my elementary school playground, where my best friend and I would play with our Cabbage Patch Dolls at recess. ;o) Dandelions are hard to kill, but our house is in an older neighborhood with big trees - no one's lawn is that pretty. We just try to keep it from being overgrown. Well, usually...

Storms again tonight! There were tornadoes out west!

    1. Just a lot of rain and noise! Not so bad. The tornadoes out west were in open fields. Lots of cool pictures on the news last night!

I checked out a few books on dandelions, and this was my favorite. I'm sad it's out of print.
