Sick Day
Aren't they beautiful? They were a very sweet, unnecessary thank you gift. I helped with a baby shower last weekend. Other friends really hosted, but they enlisted me for help because it was a book baby shower!!! Kids' books and parties, two of my favorite things!
And one of my least favorite things? Being sick, duh!
Kansas has been hit hard by the flu. Swell. Lucky for me, I only have a cold.
Colds make me whiny and miserable. I can't imagine what I'd turn into with the flu.
Little Sis went home with her best friend after preschool yesterday. I got to stay in bed. Mommies don't get to stay in bed while sick very often.
There were six clementines in that bowl. Am I the only person who feels the need to constantly eat something when I have a cold? I hate the scratchy throat and drainage and bad taste in my mouth, so I feel this need to snack, all day long. Why can't I be one of those people who lose weight when sick? Resistance is futile. (And why, oh, why did my husband buy those Chips Ahoy knockoffs and leave them on the counter? Why?)
And I know people crave chicken noodle soup with a cold, but I don't eat chicken. Do you know what I want? Garlicky veggie pizza, thick crust. Or maybe Mexican, as spicy as a wimp like me can handle it. (Mexican won out last night.)
Everyone has their advice when you're sick. Most people told me to rush to the doctor and make sure it's not the flu! Tamiflu only works within the first 48 hours! Eh, no fever. Not the flu. Just a cold.
Vitamin C! Zinc!
In the book below, Snuffleupagus has a cold (with fever). Big Bird is going to visit him, but first every single person on Sesame Street has to give him something to take to Snuffy. Some give him remedies. Some send a gift or a treat to cheer Snuffy up. Big Bird just wants to visit his friend! He eventually makes it to Snuffy's house, only to drop the huge stack of gifts.
That's okay. The only gift Snuffy needed was a visit from his best friend, Bird.
That said, I don't want anyone to visit. I want to stay in bed, while magical fairies sweep into my house and clean up everything, top to bottom.
With Lysol.
Colds make me so grouchy... so grouchy...

I swear this winter has been just horrible for sickness! I am tired of winter! (I say that everyday... I need an attitude adjustment.) Get feeling better!!! I love big bird and snuffy... they are such good friends. :)
ReplyDeleteIt hasn't been that cold here, yet sickness is rampant. We all have bugs galore, then this spring and summer, we'll have literal bugs galore! Nothing is freezing! (See what I did there?) ;o) Big Bird and Snuffy are very sweet. This one is a favorite.
DeleteBig Bird and Snuffy are so cute. Too bad those jerks on Sesame Street wouldn't believe that Snuffy was real for so long. LOL. Looks like you've got some good stuff to keep you entertained there while you're sick. I so need some magical fairies to come to my house too, and I'm not even sick. ;)
ReplyDeleteWell, we're still babysitting my niece today (she's getting over this stuff), so Mr. B, Little Sis, and I cleaned up. Not perfect, but toddler-proofed a bit. And we bought Lysol spray. ;o)
DeleteI slept through most of Gosford Park, but I've seen it many times. It had been a while, though - it's pretty cool to watch it again after watching so much Downton Abbey. I did get my magazine read. I don't read books on my nook, but it's fantastic for cheap magazine subscriptions!
And yeah, poor Snuffy. I do remember the old days...
My bro didn't get his Tamiflu until 5 days later and he still felt like it really helped him (placebo effect???)
ReplyDeleteIf you're still unwell by Friday, my whole Friday list is health stuff!
I had a terrible cold this past fall, not flu, but one of the worst colds ever. I went thru half box of tissue in 3 hrs. it was awful.
FEEL BETTER! Alcohol. Kill it with alcohol. :)
Last night, I made tea with a peach tea bag, a clove of garlic, a sliver of ginger, a dash of cayenne pepper, and some raw honey and lemon juice. It tasted better than it sounded and felt so good on the throat! We need rum. Spiced rum, I think.
DeleteIt is just a cold. Not even that bad by my standards, just very inconvenient. I missed our last Girl Scout meeting before cookie sales start, I still had to go to play rehearsal, not to mention the usual kiddo duties... waaaaahhh.
Hope you feel better soon! Glad it's not flu, though. I don't eat very much at all when I have a cold, but I don't take drugs if I can help it, so I spend the whole time slightly (not-so-slightly?) drunk from self-medicating with Scotch. Of course, not being a parent, I can be completely and totally irresponsible when sick. I even make Paul go get me some Pho and put tons of sriracha in it. Or Egg Drop Soup. Or something Thai. Asian food always makes me feel better (I guess because it clears out my sinuses).
ReplyDeleteI love Gosford Park--I need to watch it again soon.
We saw Gosford Park 3 times in the theater! Back in those days, we saw a lot more movies in the theater...
DeleteI'm taking my allergy meds (which do help dry me up) and ibuprofen for the swelling. And water, lots of water. Or iced tea, if I can't handle the taste of the water...
Oh no! It seems like everyone is sick right now. I'm just waiting for it... The baby shower sounds fun though! What a great idea! Sounds like a lot of fun. Get well very very soon! Snuggle up with a book and a good snack :)
ReplyDeleteMy mother and brother in Shawnee, OK had the full-fledged flu. I know plenty of people up here who've had it. I can handle a cold. ;o) Especially when the husband is home! I do hope to head to bed early tonight. I'm watching my little niece, who is getting over the same crud, poor thing. Stay well! Lots of hand washing...
